Springing n flinging

Thank Yelza for Spring Fling! Although, I did not see Kate Moss there... the "(we shit you not!)" on the poster had me expecting some kind of Kate-Moss called woman to show (who wasn't really a smack-whore celebrity)... but even that didn't eventuate.

On the good side, I did get to drink loads of free alcomohol (the Asahi ran out in under half an hour but was replaced by "lucky dip" where you had to nominate can or bottle and accept whatever you were handed... it's the first time I've had pre-mixed drinks in about 10 years... no wait, I did have some at the awful, awful Meredith year). The company was PERFECT, with Mansha (don't go home!!!), Union Steve, Tim and Claire, with surprise special guest appearance by Mel from IsNot. It doesn't get any better. The night did end on a sour note - good Japanese food in a restaurant that smelt like poo. Not like, bad... really, like POO.

It has put me back in the mood for all the hard work I still have to do. Spring Fling I thank thee.

It never rains but it pours...

I haven't maintained a steady flow of entries in here through our second round of publishing with The Pundit, our follow on from The Pun. I don't think I could ever really get my head around what we were doing, how it was happening and where we were at with it. This time around we only did one edition for the whole time of the festival (given the shorter timespan of the festival it was the best way to approach things) and were much more creative with content and structure. It was a chance to really develop and grow what we had achieved with MICF, and to harness the considerable talents of our editorial team and their knowledge of film. With quite a few film degrees in our midst, plus two film editors, it was great to get our teeth sunk into things.
I sat this one out and had a more limited involvement. I was the Publishing Editor (which essentially means it's my job to sort out the money, budgets, logistics, timelines, schedules etc) while Tim took over as Managing Editor for this round. He did such an awesome job, despite feeling pretty overwhelmed for a while there. Paul and Jane were more than amazing, they really stepped up to the challenge and all three worked their arses off to create a great magazine. This edition had a new set of issues and we certainly didn't get everything done perfectly, but we learnt so much and I know that all of us won't forget some of the mistakes made...
I got sick (it's been so long since I've felt that helpless, it was horrible), and to have a team there supporting you all the way, able to step up and take on more responsibility, more work and more care was a pretty great feeling. I've been in that situation before when the people around you shirk further away rather than helping and there isn't a single person who benefits. It's made me respect and appreciate our small team even more. I can't wait until I can repay them for all their hard work.
So now I'm back on board and while The Pundit is over, National Student & Emerging Media Conference is not. Not by a looooooooong way. I'm behind (thanks to being sick), and while there is also a team of awesome people involved in this project, so much of it lives in my head that it's been hard to get other people helping. I'm just starting to feel like I have things on track again, but I'm in that panic mode where everything has a momentum you are barely keeping up with. On the good news side, Mansha gets in to town tomorrow (so excited, not even trying to hide it) and Janet is here on Friday - these two strong, awesome ladies are exactly what the conference needs. Not to mention that Jane and Paul are powering away at all the things that need to be done, as is Tim.
Is that a fair roundup? I hope so. I wanted to at least update on where everything has been (including me), and to remind myself that things are really okay.
So who's coming to this damn festival anyway? You guys better be there to enjoy all this bloody hard work with me!!!!
